Speakeasy

Speak easy is the name of the Welfare Teams brand new listening service.
Speakeasy is a free confidential listening service, which is run by the students of Bishop Grosseteste for the students of Bishop Grosseteste. The service is available to all students throughout the academic year.
The service is purely a 'listening service', not a counseling service, trained Speakeasy listeners have the knowledge and expertise to put the student in contact with the relevant support agency or will have access to any information a student may require. The trained listeners are more than happy to listen and give their support.
There are opportunities throughout the academic year for students to be trained as Speakeasy listeners. These listeners will be trained by Ashton Hinson.
The Speakeasy service takes place in the Welfare Office, Monday to Friday from 12:15pm - 1:15pm and again from 4:30pm - 6:30pm. You can book a time to talk and choose a listener, by using the tick sheet on the Welfare Office door.

Students can also contact Speakeasy by phone between 4pm and 7pm Monday to Friday, on 07835 144499 (this number is also printed on the Welfare key rings) There is also a Speakeasy email address - speakeasy@bishopg.ac.uk - which you can contact Speakeasy listeners to arrange a time to meet.

Buddy Scheme

Each year the Welfare team asks for volunteers to become a buddy to the new intake of Fresher’s. The scheme is designed to give all new students a ‘buddy’ to help them through their first few months of University life. Normally a first year is assigned a current student on the same course so as they can offer the best kind of support and advice.
