► Course Reps

 What is a Course Rep?

A course rep is a student that volunteers to represent the views of their fellow class colleagues. You can volunteer to represent students at programme committees, academic board committees or student council. The system requires course reps from every course undergraduate and postgraduate. I will be providing training covering all aspects of being a rep and supporting you throughout the year. If you are interested or would like more details come see me Davina Robinson (VP Democracy and Education) in the Students’ Union office.

Why be a Course Rep?

As well as the satisfaction that you can and are making a difference there are many other benefits to being a rep:

  • Being a course rep will allow you to develop transferable skills and imporve your career prospects. Communication, negotiation, presentation and committee skills are all highly valuable skills and can be developed throughout your year as rep.

  • You can provide the students with a sense of ownership and an opportunity to comment on their experience at BG.

  • You will help improve the quality of the courses BG offer and help tailor them to suit the needs of students.

  • You will could be rewarded with STAMP credit.

  • You will be excuses from plaecment if there is a meeting you need to attend.

  • You will be involved in major and minor decisions put forward by the students and Students' Union at weekly council.

  • You will help develop a greater partnership between students, staff and the Students' Union.

Overall and most importantly you will help embed students views in the college's decision making processes.

Who can be a Course Rep?

Absolutely anyone! It is important to get student feedback from each course run and BG believes that students should be represented at all levels of the university college’s structure. It is up to you who you choose or if you volunteer on your course. However if you wish to represent students at academic committees you need to make your self known to me. We require a Postgraduate and an undergraduate for Academic standards committee, academic services committee and academic planning committee.

If you have any questions or would like a chat I can be contacted via email; davina.robinson@bishopg.ac.uk or pop into the Students' Union office.
