The Welfare Team

The Welfare Team at BG            S, meaning each role is undertaken by a student in full time education.

Welfare Officer
Steve Illidge
What does the Welfare Officer do?
 
  • Is a member of the Core Students’ Union Executive and undertakes all the responsibilities that come with it. 

  • Is responsible for the running of the Students’ Union Welfare Service and team.

  • Liaises with the University College pastoral care and student support system to ensure continuity of care for all students.  

  • Ensures that campaigns of a relevant nature are implemented and advertised in the Students’ Union and that awareness of such issues is raised.

  • Liaises with the National Blood service to ensure students are able to give blood at the relevant times throughout the year.

  • Along with the Welfare team, organises events to raise awareness of campaigns and promote health issues.

  • Works as a member of the Welfare team, actively supporting each member with their individual responsibilities.

Equal Opportunities Officer

Hannah Clark-Darby

  • Works as a member of the Welfare team, actively supporting each member with their individual responsibilities.

  • Ensures minority groups are represented effectively by the Union and the University College, these include LGBT, Mature, ethnic minority and international students.

  • Convenes and chairs LGBT and Mature Students Committees.

  • Raises awareness, publicises, promotes and takes action upon Equal Opportunities issues to all students.
 

 

 
Welfare Secretary

  • Works as a member of the Welfare team, actively supporting each member with their individual responsibilities.

  • Responsible for the running of the confidential listening service; Speakeasy. This included the training of SU Executive and students.

  • Minutes and archives all Welfare meetings.

  • Supports and assists the Nightline listening service by liaising with the head of Nightline to recruit members, publicise and volunteer for the service.  

 

Welfare Publicist 

Theresa Bullough

  • Works as a member of the Weively supporting each member with their individual responsibilities.

  • Ensures all Welfare related events are publicised as appropriate.

  • Responsible for promoting the services and products the Welfare team have on offer.
