The Students’ Union President at BGSU is a sabbatical position, meaning it is a full time job.
What does the President do?
The Students’ Union President is the prime representative of the Union and has a number of responsibilities within it. The President works full time for the Union for 12 months.
These are the main responsibilities of the President…

Oversees the running of the Students’ Union.

Ensures every student at Bishop Grosseteste University College is represented fairy and equally in all aspects of the institution.

Leads the Union Executive Committee democratically and efficiently, whilst ensuring they are well supported.

Is the chairperson of the weekly Student Council meetings.

Is the official spokesperson of the Union to the media and other external bodies.

Alongside the Vice President, liaise with the National Union of Students (NUS) and attend meetings and conferences where necessary.

Meets with University College management regularly and report back to the Students’ Union.
- Attends the following University College boards, groups and committees and reports back to the Union:
- Governing Body
- Academic Board
- Bar Committee
- Diversity and Equality Committee
- Events Committee
- Fairtrade Steering Group
- Recruitment and Retention
